Jharkhand CID probe finds 6 of Maheshwari family died by suicide over debt

Hazaribag, May 6: Six years after the mysterious death of six members of Maheshwari family in Shubham apartment near Khazanchi Talab of the city, the CID finally submitted the closure report in this case terming it a suicide.

The investigation of this case was handed over to the CID after pressure from the family. The CID started its investigation from the month of January and they have completed the investigation in four months. The case diary of 800 pages, closure report of 350 pages and the charge sheet of 26 pages were handed over in this matter in the court.

Bodies of six of the Maheshwari family known for dry fruits business had been found in their apartment in year 2018. The deceased included elderly couple Mahavir Maheshwari and Kiran Maheshwari beside their only son Naresh and daughter-in-law Priti. Naresh’s son Aman and Anvi were also found dead.

The CID in their report charged Naresh with killing all before jumping out of the apartment committing suicide. The investigation report mentioned that all the evidences, witnesses and FSL report took them to the fact that this case is suicide. It said Naresh assisted in hanging his father, mother and wife, then strangulated the daughter and killed the son by slitting his throat. He himself jumped from the top floor of the apartment. committing suicide.

The CID said the family was taken debt of Rs.1crore and as their business suffered huge loss, they decided to commit suicide. Even their mobiles when checked confirmed that Naresh was checking the best possible way to commit suicide.

The report includes DNA test report of Ranchi FSL, suicide note investigation report of CSFL Kolkata, investigation report of mobile of deceased of CSFL Kolkata, detail report of bank and post office, detail report of bank account of deceased, SBI LIC Housing Colony, loan report from Punjab National Bank, report of market transaction and statement of 72 people as well as postmortem report was taken as basis.

It may be known that on July 14, 2018, 6 people of Maheshwari family living in flat number 303 on the third floor of CDM Shubham Apartment near Khazanchi Talab had died. The mystery was unresolved whether it was an incident of murder or suicide.

Following the demand of family members and the voice raised by Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy, the investigation of this case was handed over to the CID. Inspector Ravikant was taked with the investigation.

Starting its investigation on January 9, 2023, Ravikant recreated the crime scene. The investigator proceeded with its investigation rapidly and submitted the report in 4 months. Maheshwari’s relatives Devesh Maheshwari said that after so many days the report has been submitted stating that it was suicide with Naresh Maheshwari has been made responsible for it. Now on this what can we do, he asked. The suspect, in whose name the power of attorney was written by Maheshwari family before death was not questioned even once.
