Ranchi, May 10: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren delivering appointment letters to as many as 107 assistant public prosecutors (APPs) today asked them to get connected with local people to ensure justice to all.

He asked them to learn local languages to ensure that people in Jharkhand who have little knowledge of English and Hindi besides law do not get deprived of justice.

Soren, on the occasion, expressed his concern over the high number of pendency of cases and asked the APPs to pay proper attention to that to ensure that those who are inside jail without any reason should get legal assistance and get justice.

Referring to a statement of President Droupadi Murmu, Soren said one should think in the direction of reducing the number of jails, where the number of prisoners is increasing due to pendency of cases.

Earlier, Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh asked them to follow the principle of ‘let 99 guilty go scot-free but not a single innocent should go to jail’. He suggested they make a bunch of cases of similar nature and chalk out a strategy for its disposal.

Singh let them know how delay in disposal of cases causes problems for the poor. “Another date may be one adjournment for you but for the poor it is equal to three-day remuneration besides financial loss in the form of giving fee to advocate,” he said.

Newly appointed APPs will not be imparted six-month training due to the crisis of time. The CS during his speech mentioned the same. Chief Minister Soren taking note of the same assured the newly appointed APPs he will ensure training inside or outside the state to make them enable to work efficiently in the future.

With the appointment of 107 APPs, the number of APPs in the state rose to 164 against the sanctioned strength of 250.
