Ranchi, Sept 6: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday approved the proposal to register a PE against Executive Engineer Manoj Kumar Vidyarthi.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had arrested Manoj Kumar Vidyarthi, executive engineer of the Minor Irrigation Division, Chaibasa, for taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 on July 20, 2021.

The investigation report of the case has been submitted by the investigating officer. According to the investigation report, after the arrest of Manoj Kumar Vidyarthi, nine lakh rupees were recovered in the search of his house and the allegation of keeping the bribe amount in his rented house was found to be prima facie true. It has been mentioned that there are immovable property worth crores in the name of the accused and his wife in Patna, Ranchi and their native village. During secret verification in the case, it has come to light that accused Manoj Kumar Vidyarthi used to take bribe on the basis of percentage in lieu of paying the bills for the work done by the contractors.

What is the case?

Manoj Kumar had demanded a bribe to pass the bill for the PCC road being built at a cost of Rs 8 lakh in Bandgaon, Chaibasa. This work was given to Krishnalaya Construction Company. The 1000-meter road was to be constructed at a cost of eight lakh rupees. Manoj Vidyarthi had asked for 20 percent of the cost as commission. Accordingly, the engineer was to get Rs 1.60 lakh. It was agreed between Manoj Kumar and the representative of the contracting company to pay Rs 20,000 in the first instalment. The ACB arrested Manoj Kumar during the first installment transaction.
