Jamshedpur, Jan 20: A 26-year-old CoBRA jawan was injured as he was exposed to an IED blast triggered by Naxals at the infamous Tumbahaka jungle under the Naxal-infested Tonto thana area of West Singhbhum district about 100 km away from here this afternoon.

The injured jawan identified as Chiranjibi Parte was immediately airlifted to a hospital in Ranchi where his condition is described as out of danger.

Chiranjibi who is a native of Madhya Pradesh was participating in a combined search operation against the Naxals in the Tumbahaka jungle where a big squad of rebels is said to have been hiding almost since last fortnight.

West Singhbhum SP, Ashutosh Shekhar confirmed about the CoBRA jawan was injured in an IED blast at the Tumbahaka jungle.

“The injury jawan’s condition is stable at a Ranchi-based hospital where he was air-lifted immediately after the incident. The anti-insurgency operation at the said jungle is on, ” said Shekhar while talking to lagatar24.com.

The police and paramilitary forces have launched a joint operation at the Tumbahaka jungle after getting the intelligence input that senior Naxal leaders, including Misir Besra and Patiram Majhi alias Analda are hiding in that forest stretch which is said to be strategically important.

It may be noted that both Misir Besra and Analda carry a bounty of Rs one crore on each of their head.

Apprehending the offensive by the police and paramilitary forces, the Naxals planted IEDs extensively across the said jungle.
