Ranchi, Aug.11: Saranda, once known as a Maoist stronghold where raising the flag was a difficult task, today saw a sizable Tiranga Rally on motorcycles to commemorate 75 years of Indian Independence.
Following orders from commander Parvesh Kumar Johri, members of the CRPF’s 197th battalion stationed in the region for anti-naxal operations planned the gathering. The rally began from Tholkobad, and travelled to Kiriburu-Meghahatuburu. It covered regions like Karampada and Jumbaiburu.
In support of the flag, the jawans shouted slogans like “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” during the demonstration. Up to 200 jawans took part in the rally.
The tricolour was being waved by all of the soldiers travelling in a rally on their motorcycles, and they had also tied it to their vehicles.
All of the jawans were visible telling the villagers and citizens of the town to proudly fly the tricolour flag in their residences from August 13 to August 15.
Villagers were delighted to see the rally. According to one of the villagers, the Naxalites prevented them from hanging the tricolour flag in Saranda between the years 2001 and 2011, but ever since the CRPF arrived in Saranda, they have been doing so.
One of the villagers remarked that it was the first time they had witnessed a sizable demonstration in the heart of the Naxalites’ stronghold, complete with the tricolour.
