Ranchi, Feb.11: 1987 batch IPS officer Neeraj Sinha was today given farewell after completion of his tenure as Director General of Police (DGP).
A farewell parade was organized on the occasion at JAP-1 ground in Doranda where many police officers, including DG Ajay Kumar Singh, DG Anurag Gupta, DG Anil Palta, ADG RK Mallick, ADG Prashant Singh, and ADG Murarilal Meena besides others were present.
Sinha is the first SSP of Ranchi after the creation of Jharkhand. He was appointed Ranchi SSP on November 25, 2000. Later he held position of JAP-1 Commandant, Hazaribagh SP, Special Branch SP, Hazaribagh Range DIG, STF IG, ADG (Surveillance), ADG (Special Branch) cum Special Secretary Home Department, ADG cum OSD Delhi, ADG (Wireless), DG (Wireless), DG (JAP), DG (ACB).
Born on January 8, 1962 in Sahibganj, Sinha did his matriculation in 1976 from St. Xavier’s School, Sahibganj, and received the National Science Talent Search Award scholarship in 1977. After joining the Indian Police Service, he became Piro ASP, Patna ASP, Jehanabad SP, Jamui SP, Samastipur SP, Ara SP, BMP-10 Commandant, Katihar SP, CID SP, Nalanda SP in integrated Bihar.
After he superannuated, he shared his experiences of police service saying it was unique. He said uniform became another skin of the policemen and word of commands given during the parade kept on reverberating the heart of a policeman.
Asked about achievement, he said there were many and mentioned recent action of liberating Budha Pahar from the naxal control. He said during his tenure Maoists have been limited to a small area of a state.
Sinha had taken charge from acting DGP M.V.Rao on February 11, 2021 amid controversy over the appointment of DGP.
Controversy started after M.V. Rao the then DG (home guard and fire services) was given additional charge of director general of state police on March 17, 2020 after IPS officer Kamal Nayan Choubey who was transferred to the Police Modernisation Division Camp in New Delhi.
It was expected that Rao would continue on the post but it could not be possible after the Union Public Service Commission in August, 2020 did not accept the request of the Jharkhand government sent in July 2020 to prepare a fresh panel for appointment to the post of DGP.
Citing rules the UPSC pointed out loopholes in relieving K.N.Choubey from the post of DGP and termed the action of relieving him from his post as violation of Supreme Court order.
Citing reason and circumstances, the UPSC requested the state government to comply with the directive of the apex court order and furnish their comments on the observation made in the letter. Later the government also decided not to take the matter to the apex court to avoid controversy about taking the top position of state police.
