Ranchi, Sept.2: Jharkhand DGP Neeraj Kumar awarded cash worth Rs 10,000 to a constable, Santosh Kumar, who arrested a criminal red-handed with a firearm and knife at Adarsh Nagar under Dhurwa police station on Thursday.
The jawan, posted at Namkum police station, did the heroic act when he was on his way to his residence after nightlong duty.
“As Santosh noticed Dwarika Singh attacking his landlord Vimal Mahli with firearms and a knife, he without bothering for his personnel security swung into action and overpowered him. He snatched his firearms and knife and handed him to officials of Dhurwa police station for legal action. His heroic act has not only saved the life of the victim, who had already taken two bullets, but also helped create peace in the locality,” said the officer-in-charge of Namkum police station, Sunil Tiwari.
Singh had opened fire on Mahli as he suspected that the latter had an illicit relationship with his wife. The attack was made when Mahli was returning after dropping his son to school in the same locality. An FIR was registered in this connection.
