Ranchi, Nov 15: The Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University on Tuesday celebrated the Tribal Gaurav Diwas and commemorated the birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Birsa Munda on its premises. Significantly, the Central Government has announced that the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda is celebrated as Tribal Pride Day.

Vice Chancellor Dr Tapan Kumar Shandilya in his address referred to the personality of Birsa Munda and said that it is not an easy task to assess and evaluate the personality of Dharti Aaba and his life, especially because his thoughts were not of his time and were progressive. “Bhagwan Birsa Munda was a blessed son of the land of Jharkhand,” the VC added.

Furthermore, in his address, the VC said that in the case of some people time is what helps them gain importance, while others work and make their era something to be talked of. “They evaluate the time correctly and some predict the time to come. Dharti Aba Birsa Munda never lost sight of the problems and kept fighting till his last breath,” the VC added.

Students of several departments gave cultural performances on the occasion. The poster of the film DAMDI starring Dr Rajesh Kumar, professor of the Physics Department in the University was launched by the Vice Chancellor as well. All the teachers and staff members along with Registrar Dr Namita Singh and DSW Dr Anil Kumar were present on the occasion.
