Ranchi, Dec 8: Former Chief Minister and BJP senior Babulal Marandi on Thursday demanded a CBI inquiry of the Barharwa toll plaza tender case as well as the Vijay Hansda case.

The Barharwa toll plaza case was lodged by Pakur-based businessman Shambhu Nandan Kumar against minister Alamgir Alam and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s MLA representative Pankaj Mishra. This is one of the cases which the Enforcement Directorate is investigating as part of the illegal stone mining scam. Similarly, Vijay Hansda is a witness of the ED in the mining scam case and he had lodged a court complaint against Pankaj Mishra and others for carrying illegal mining at Nimbu Pahadi.

In a press release, Marandi alleged that the Jharkhand government headed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren patronized illegal mining, hence the state police can’t investigate these cases in a fair manner.

“In such a situation victims can’t get justice. So it is necessary that the CBI should investigate these cases. I am going to request the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and the DGP in writing to allow a CBI investigation,” Marandi said.

Marandi alleged that the loot of mines and minerals has been going on in Sahibganj district for the last three years. Leaders and representatives of the ruling combine and officials at all levels are involved in the scam.

“There is a situation of the Jungle Raj in Jharkhand and I have repeatedly written to the state government to warn about the loot of minerals under the patronage of the government and the same should be stopped. But who will take action when the Chief Minister’s MLA representative and officials are involved in the loot. Now it is an open secret who is getting the share of the loot,” Marandi said.

Marandi raised questions over Sahibganj police giving a clean chit to Minister Alamgir Alam and CM’s MLA representative Pankaj Mishra in Barharwa case. He also raised the issue of Vijay Hansda. But despite the court order, the FIR was not registered by the police. “Instead, the Sahibganj police started pressurizing Vijay Hansda to withdraw the case and sent him to jail also. In a situation like this only the CBI can investigate these cases,” said Marandi.
