Ranchi, Jan 5: The Jharkhand State Food Commission (JSFC) on Thursday wrote a letter to the department of the food and civil supply regarding non-availability of food grains to the beneficiaries of Sadar block of Dumka district.
Chairperson of the JSFC Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary who wrote the letter to the secretary of the department said that it was very unfortunate that beneficiaries were forced to block the road to draw the attention of the government.
Choudhary said that through social media the commission came to know that people are agitated over the non-availability and blocked the Ring road. Dumka is the home town of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his brother Basant Soren is the local MLA.
He said that in the view of the seriousness of the matter he spoke to Dumka District Supply Officer and Additional Collector-cum-District Grievance Redressal Officer asking them to explain the situation.
The District Supply Officer informed that the supply of the food grain for the month of December 2022 is still awaited as the stock has not reached Sadar block. As a result, the beneficiaries have not been able to get food grains for the month of December.
“December has passed, but food grains have not reached the godowns. It is clear that such a situation arises due to non-requisition of food grains by the Jharkhand State Food Corporation. Even before this, this type of situation has been seen in many other cases, regarding which the department has been informed by the Commission from time to time. The beneficiaries have to bear the brunt of the negligence of the Jharkhand State Food Corporation, which is not fair. Supply of food grains to beneficiaries after the end of the month increases the possibility of black marketing of grains,” he said.
