Ranchi, March 7: The State government assured proper action against drug peddlers giving a statement in the assembly today.
The statement came from parliamentary affairs minister Alamgir Alam after Baghmara MLA Dhullu Mahto raised the issue of the rise in the supply of brown sugar in Jharkhand and also pointed finger at the state police for not being serious regarding the problem.
Mahto said police let off the accused of drug peddling and hardly took any strong action. He said that due to this situation several youths have become drug addicts.
His party colleague Anant Ojha supported Mahto saying recently a youth having a connection with Udhwa block was caught with brown sugar worth Rs 16 crore from Kolkata and drug peddling has become a matter of concern for the state.
Alam while assuring proper action said the state government has been taking legal action against those involved in opium cultivation.
