Dhanbad, April 4: The Health and Medical Education Family Welfare Department of Jharkhand has initiated the dismissal proceeding against Dr Seema Sahu, the ‘missing’ assistant professor of gynaecology and obstetrics department of Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu.
Dr Sahu had joined MMCH as an assistant professor in 2019 and after working for a week, she allegedly went on leave without giving any information to the college administration as well as the health department.
Taking serious note of her absence from college without notice, the health department has issued a notice and directed her to appear before the special committee under Gouri Shankar Minz (retired IAS officer) on April 5 at Ranchi. Dr Dilip Kumar, superintendent of MMCH is another member of the committee.
Manoj Kumar Singh, the additional secretary of the state government has issued a notice in this regard to Dr Sahu saying, “Since you (Dr Sahu) have been absent from the working place since August 19, 2019, the health and medical education family welfare department has started departmental proceedings against you. So, you are requested to appear before the committee at 12.30 pm on April 5 at Dhurwa, Ranchi and put up your defence about absconding from college,”
The official has informed her that the department has already started proceeding against her from February 22, 2022.
Dr Shailendra Kumar, the principal of Medinirai Medical College Hospital, admitted that the proceeding has started against assistant professor Dr Seema Sahu.
Principal Dr Kumar stated that he had not seen her because she had joined and left before he arrived at MMCH Palamu. She did not respond to any notices sent to her informing her of her absence.
“On the directive of the health department, I had to give written information about her absence from the workplace,” said the principal.
A senior official of the state’s health and medical education department said that since all five medical colleges are reeling under an acute shortage of teachers, the government has initiated action against the teachers who are absconding without information.
