Ranchi, April 2: Wages of Rs 225 per day to MGNREGA workers will remain unchanged in Jharkhand though the union government increased wage by Rs 12 from April 1 this year.

The reason behind remaining the wage unchanged is a deduction in the state contribution by Rs 12.

An official of the rural development department informed this by sharing a letter issued by his department to all the deputy commissioners of the state.

“Earlier the union government had fixed wages for MGNREGA workers at Rs 198 per day. To make the wage respectable, the Jharkhand government contributed Rs 27 and made it Rs 225 per day. Now when the union government had made the wage Rs 210 per day it was expected that MGNREGA workers would get Rs 237 per day. But this is not going to happen as the state government reduced its contribution by Rs 12 with the decision of increase in wage by the union government,” the rural development department official said sharing the letter.
