Daltonganj, February 12: As the state government’s set date to choose a new DGP for Jharkhand is here, several fingers are crossed in regard to CM Hemant Soren’s decision for DGP.
According to the affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the state should have chosen a DGP by February 12 irrespective of the day being a Sunday.
Talking in this regard on the condition of anonymity, a senior IPS officer commented that the state government will have to select one of the suggested names as appointing someone other than the three will stir up more legal issues which the state government can’t afford to have at this juncture.
Along with this, two police officials being gunned down at Deoghar in a post-midnight shootout late Saturday night has come as a big alarm for the state police, which is at present without a DGP.
“There is expediency to the makeover of the image of Jharkhand police which is losing the trust and confidence of people in general,” said another police officer.
Notably, the Union Public Service Commission recommended three names. Among these, Anil Palta is one name, even critics of whom believe that if given the charge, he will be able to contain the rot that has spread and already set in the state police machinery.
Some RJD leaders have also reminded that when Niraj Sinha relinquished the post of the DGP Jharkhand on Saturday, Bihar’s Tejashwi Yadav had a discussion with the chief minister Hemant Soren about how Bihar’s DGP R S Bhatti is trying to put the state police on right track. Notably, Yadav is understood to have shared with Soren how Bhatti in Bihar has instilled fear among the criminals.
Meanwhile, one BJP leader commented, “We enjoy the helplessness of the CM who is taking so much time to select one of the three names for the DGP while the criminals in Jharkhand are putting their fingers at the trigger most fearlessly. See what happened with two cops at Deoghar.”
