Jharkhand Governor’s office can’t curtail holidays through office order: FUTAJ

Dhanbad, June 9: President of the Federation of Universities Teachers Associations of Jharkhand (FUTAJ) Prof NK Singh has demanded the implementation of the state government’s Human Resources Development (HRD) holidays’ calendar for teachers.

“A delegation of the FUTAJ  under general secretary Prof Rajkumar has already cleared it to the principal secretary to the Governor.  Notwithstanding,  if Chancellor ( Governor) office has any confusion with the leave vacation of university/ college teachers of the state, it should implement the HRD calendar and give all the facilities, including earned leave and medical reimbursement to teachers what are being given to the HRD staff. Even  Saturday and Sunday leaves,” said the FUTAJ president.

Prof NK Singh said that leaves to teachers have been given under the Jharkhand State University Act 2000. The statute of the university can’t be changed merely through an office order.  The statute is the constitution of the university. Any change in the Act could be made only through a proper legal way as the constitution of India is amended through parliament. “ So whatever changes have been made in leaves of teachers through an office order is wrong,” he said.

The Governor’s OSD Mukesh Chandra Narayan on May 16, 2023, issued an office order to all Vice-Chancellors of the state implementing a uniform leave calendar from June 1, 2023. In the calendar, summer vacation leave has been given for only 20 days, 6 days for Durga Puja, 12 days for Deepawali and Chhath and restricted holidays for 5 days.
