MANISH GUPTA

Ranchi, Nov 2: The Jharkhand Road Construction Department is abuzz with planning and construction of flyovers, ring roads and connecting roads as the government wants to develop the road system in the state capital on the radial and circular pattern.

“We are currently doing a feasibility study for four flyovers in the state capital to ease the traffic which is highly congested,” Rajesh Kumar Singh, Chief Engineer, Central Design Office (RCD), Road Construction Department (RCD) told lagatar24.com.

Singh said that while specifics of the four flyovers – their length, where they will start and where they will touch down – are being studied, the major concern is to ease the traffic at Hinoo Chowk, Kishoreganj Chowk, Karamtoli Chowk and Morabadi area.

It may be noted that Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday inspected the progress in the construction of Yogda Satsang Ashram-Kanta Toli-Kokar flyover. On August 19, he laid the foundation for construction of a four-lane flyover and elevated road connecting Siramtoli Chowk near railway station to Mecon Chowk via Rajendra Chowk.

Further, sharing details of other mega plans for the city, Singh said, “Currently, there is a four-lane Ring Road, which is about 85 kms in circumference. We have proposed an Outer Ring Road, which will encircle the state capital with a circumference of 155-160 kms. The central government has shown interest in supporting its construction. This four-lane ring road will be 15 kms further away from the current Ring Road.”

The CDO is also working on another four-lane Ring Road – the Inner Ring Road – and it will cover major locations within the main city. This will have a length of about 40 kms.

“Then all these three ring roads will be connected with radial roads at suitable locations across the circle so that any person from any part of the city can get on a four-lane road within a maximum of one kilometre. This radial and circular pattern will ease the traffic significantly,” said Singh.

His team is planning these roads and flyovers such that no building has to be removed and there is no need to provide any rehabilitation.
