Gumla, Oct 11: The family of India’s U-17 women’s football team captain Astam Oraon will be watching television for the first time at their Jharkhand residence as the state has provided them with a TV and inverter ahead of the tournament.

The fact that they will witness their daughter captaining the nation at the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup makes it very remarkable.

At the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar this evening, India plays host to the dominant US.

Notably, Oraon is a native of a small village in Jharkhand’s Gumla district. The district administration arranged for a television and an inverter to be delivered to her house before the first match so that her family could watch her bouts.

“All set: Ashtam for the match. And, their family and villagers for the viewership (TV & inverter provided),” tweeted the office of Deputy Commissioner, Gumla.

India, one of the three tournament debutants, has secured an automatic spot in the World Cup as the hosts.
