Ranchi: The Jharkhand government is preparing to move the Supreme Court against the High Court’s order concerning Bangladeshi infiltration in the Santhal region. The state plans to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) next week, seeking to overturn the directive issued by the Jharkhand High Court.
According to the High Court’s order, both the central and state governments were instructed to form a fact-finding committee to investigate the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration. The Court also demanded that the names of two officers for the committee be submitted by September 30. The Jharkhand government, after reviewing the legal aspects, is set to challenge this order.
Hearing on Danyal Danish’s Petition Scheduled for October 1
The matter arose from a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Danyal Danish, a resident of Jamshedpur. In the petition, Danish raised concerns about infiltration by Bangladeshi nationals in the Santhal region.
In its response, the central government submitted an affidavit stating that the tribal population in the region has decreased, with land being transferred to Muslims via gift deeds. The affidavit also mentioned a significant increase in the Christian population, while the tribal population has fallen from 44% to 28%. However, there was no concrete evidence provided regarding infiltration by Bangladeshi-origin individuals.
The High Court has listed Danyal Danish’s petition for a hearing on October 1.
