Ranchi, Aug 31: The Kolkata police are set to get the voice sample of Jharkhand High Court advocate Rajiv Kumar and businessman Amit Agrawal by next week. The Kolkata police are investigating the extortion case filed by Amit Agrawal against Rajiv Kumar.

Through voice samples, Kolkata police would try to verify the viral audio clip containing the conversation of Rajiv Kumar with Amit Kumar.  Amit Agrawal is likely to appear for a voice sample on September 2 whereas Rajiv Kumar is scheduled for tomorrow.

However, it is not clear whether Rajiv Kumar has given his consent for a voice sample, as under the law one can’t be forced to give evidence against himself.  Notably, the coming few days are going to be crucial for Rajiv Kumar as the lower court is going to hear his bail petition.

In an important development, Rajiv Kumar was taken back to Alipore jail in Kolkata after his period in police custody in the Enforcement Directorate case was over today. A team of ED officials from the Ranchi zonal office took him to Kolkata on Wednesday morning. ED has handed him over to Kolkata court in judicial custody.

Kolkata police arrested him on July 31 on the charge of extorting money from businessman Amit Agrawal for not pursuing his name in a shell company related to PIL 4290/21 now pending before the Supreme Court. Rajiv Kumar was the advocate of petitioner Shiv Shankar Sharma. Kolkata police allegedly caught him along with Rs 50 Lakh. The ED also took up this case for investigation as the Kolkata police summoned the former deputy director of ED of Ranchi zone on the basis of some WhatsApp conversation.
