Ranchi, Feb.9: The Jharkhand High Court today denied bail to the Ranchi violence accused Irfan Ansari alias Zubair Alam.

The order came from the bench of Justice Rajesh Kumar after the government opposed the bail when the hearing started in Alam’s bail petition.

Alam has been in jail since July 25 last year.

The case arose after an incident of violence on June 10 last year. The violence took place when a mob protesting against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s ‘derogatory remarks’ on Prophet Mohammed pelted stones on the police and the latter retaliated by resorting to lathi charge and opening fire. The incident left two dead and several injured. The district administration had to do a big exercise to bring normalcy in the capital.

Four FIRs were registered at the Daily Market police station in connection. At present, the CID is investigating this case.
