Ranchi, July 13: The Jharkhand High Court today set a three-month deadline for Khunti SP Aman Kumar to ensure the appearance of all the police witnesses in a criminal case which is in a trial stage before the lower court.
A single bench of Justice S.N. Prasad gave the direction while hearing bail petition of the accused of the case, Suleman Sandy Purty, submitting that the charge was framed against him on September 16, 2021 but police could produce only 2 of the 13 witnesses till May 2022 in the case.
The petitioner, who is allegedly an extremist, was of the opinion that the prosecution was not serious about the trial due to which neither justice is being delivered nor his bail petition is being granted.
SP Kumar was present in the court with the investigating officer of the case when the court gave the direction. The court on Wednesday had directed for the SP’s physical appearance after the bail petition of the extremist came before him.
Giving the direction for production of police witnesses within three months, the high court dismissed the bail petition. The accused extremist was arrested from the Arki area of the Khunti for attacking a police party. Majority of witnesses in the case are police personnel.
