Ranchi, Feb.10: The Jharkhand High Court today verbally directed the district authorities to ensure that no loudspeaker is played after 10pm.

The development took place in the court of Justice S.N.Pathak who had taken suo moto cognizance in the matter of sound pollution in the Jharkhand capital and had asked deputy commissioner, senior superintendent of police and municipal commissioner to appear personally to let the court know about the step taken to put a check on sound pollution through an affidavit.

‘Take every step to stop sound pollution,’ the court categorically said before expressing its displeasure over poor initiative by the district administration to check sound pollution. The court was unhappy getting no affidavit in the matter.

The Ranchi DC, SSP and the deputy municipal commissioner were present during the hearing. The court asked them regarding the steps they had taken to check the increasing noise pollution in the capital.

When the Ranchi DC informed that area around Jharkhand High Court and Ashok Nagar have been declared a silence zone, the court expressed dissatisfaction over the reply saying only these places are not in the entire city.

The court ended the hearing for the day directing the state government to present a detailed and updated information on what steps were taken to prevent noise pollution. The court deferred hearing in the matter to March 17.
