Ranchi, April 27: The Jharkhand High Court today gave no relief to the police officers, who are accused of causing custodial death to Mehendra Rajak. It rejected their petitions demanding stay on cognizance taken against them by the lower court.
The police officers included deputy superintendent of police Saryu Paswan and officer-in-charge of Barhi police station Jitendra Dubey.
Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi passed the order after hearing arguments from all sides. On behalf of DSP Saryu Paswan, advocate Rohan Mazumdar argued while advocate Hemant Shikarwar and Ishita Srivastava argued on behalf of victim Mahendra Rajak’s mother, Giani Rajak.
The matter arose after Giani Rajak filed a complaint case in the Barhi Civil Court alleging that DSP Saryu Paswan and the then station in-charge Jitendra Dubey arrested her son, who died in police custody before being produced in the court, and the court took cognizance of the matter.
