Ranchi, April 17: The Jharkhand High Court dropped contempt proceedings against state Transport Secretary K Srinivasan after he apologized for not filing an affidavit in the court on time.
Assigning reason for delay Srinivasan told the court that he was ‘on leave since April 6’. He was produced by Ranchi SSP Kishore Kaushal in the court.
On April 13 the high court starting contempt proceedings against him had issued a bailable warrant directing the SSP to ensure the secretary’s appearance.
The proceedings started after the court observed that the senior bureaucrat sought two-week time on March 29 to file a reply in a petition involving appointment of regular motor vehicle inspectors (MVI) in the transport department but failed.
The petition was filed by one Sunil Kumar Paswan saying that as many as 49 posts of MVIs are lying vacant in the transport department for more than 10 years but nothing was being done to fill it. According to him, officials of other departments are being deputed as MVIs.
Hearing the petition, the court had directed the department secretary to file a reply on when the requisition will be sent, when advertisement will be published and when the process of appointment will get completed.
