Ranchi, June 29: The Jharkhand High Court is unlikely to declare a holiday on Thursday (June 30) after a section of lawyers requested the court to declare the holiday on the occasion of Hul Diwas. As many as 124 lawyers of the high court had submitted a petition before the high court to declare June 30 as a holiday as the day is associated with the pride of Jharkhand and its people.

Notably, on June 30, the bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad of Jharkhand are scheduled to hear two PILs 4290/2021 and 727/2022 related to chief minister Hemant Soren. Both PILs were filed by Shiv Shankar Sharma.

Ritu Kumar, president of Advocates Association of Jharkhand High Court said that so far there is no confirmation whether or not Jharkhand High Court will remain closed on June 30.

“Lawyers had given me the memorandum which I forwarded to the Honorable Chief Justice of the High Court. So far, no official confirmation or the order has been released in this regard. Since there is no official confirmation or information, I can only assume that Jharkhand High Court will remain open tomorrow. Declaring a holiday involves an elaborate official procedure,” she said.

Another office-bearer of the Advocates Association of Jharkhand High Court said that they have no information about tomorrow.

“In the last 22 years, nobody actually took up this matter that there should be a holiday on June 30. This demand was raised by lawyer Surajdeo Munda. Curious enough, people are interested to know whether or not there would be a holiday on June 30 at Jharkhand High Court,” said the lawyer.

On being contacted senior lawyer Rajiv Kumar who appears for Shiv Shankar Sharma said that as per the schedule, the hearing is set to start at 10.30 AM on June 30.

“As per my understanding, there is not going to be any holiday tomorrow. Both PILs are scheduled for hearing on June 30,” he said.
