Ranchi, Aug.28: The Jharkhand High Court today ordered a CBI probe into the matter of ‘mass suicide’ by the Maheshwari family in Hazaribagh to ascertain whether it was really a case of suicide or something else.

Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi passed the order on a petition by Rajesh Maheshwari. Rajesh, who is associated with the family which committed mass suicide, filed the petition demanding a proper probe into the matter. He, through his petition, had raised questions on the CID investigation. Advocate Hemant Shikarwar argued on his behalf in the court.

On July 14, 2018, six people of the Maheshwari family, living in room number 303 of the third floor of the Shubham Apartment near Khazanchi Talab in Hazaribagh, died. The dead included the head of the family Mahavir Agarwal, wife Kiran Agarwal, his son Naresh Maheshwari, daughter-in-law Preeti Agarwal, grandson Aman Agarwal and granddaughter Anvi alias Pari Agarwal.

Among them, the body of Mahavir Agarwal was found hanging from the ceiling fan of the bedroom, while the body of Naresh Agarwal was lying outside the apartment, whose arms and legs were broken. Kiran Aggarwal’s throat was cut and the body was lying on the bed.

Preeti Agarwal’s body was found hanging from the fan. Aman was found hanging there. The body of granddaughter Anvi was recovered from the sofa. The investigation of this case was done by the CID and the incident was termed as a suicide.
