Ranchi, July 25: The Jharkhand High Court set aside the order of the urban development department by the ward councillor of ward 39, Ved Prakash Singh, who was suspended from Ranchi Municipal Corporation.
The order was given on December 16 last year alleging Singh of filing a wrong affidavit regarding his criminal case at the time of filing his nomination paper during the urban body election.
Justice Rajesh Shanker ordering reinstatement observed that the urban development department has no right to suspend or relieve councillors.
He observed that the action comes under the purview of the Election Commission. He also observed that it was expected from the urban development department to consult the election commission before taking any such action.
The order came after Singh challenged his suspension before the court through a writ petition.
Singh welcomed the decision. Probed further he said he has organised a press conference at his office in Dhurwa on Thursday at 10 am tomorrow.
