Ranchi, June 22: The Jharkhand High Court today directed the chairman cum managing director (CMD) of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited, Avinash Kumar, to appear in person in the court during the hearing of a petition related to power theft.
Surya Cement Udyog had filed the petition demanding relief from the inflated bill alleging that JBVNL first sent an inflated bill and then implicated the company in a case of power theft for non-payment of the same bill in 2008.
As Justice KP Deo heard the matter in the first half and directed Kumar to appear in person in the second half. In the second half when Kumar turned up, the court reprimanded him and directed him to settle the matter through National Lok Adalat or other means.
Earlier, Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan told the court the department has a total outstanding of more than Rs 1000 crore in various institutions.
