Ranchi, July 12: The Jharkhand High Court today sought justification for handing over the ‘June 10, 2022 Ranchi Violence Case’ to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from petitioner Pankaj Yadav who filed a PIL in the matter demanding a NIA investigation.
The justification was sought when the NIA counsel appearing in the case submitted before the court that under NIA Act, the central probe agency can take up the matter only when the offence is scheduled.
The court will now hear the matter on August 2. In the meantime, the petitioner has been to file a rejoinder in the matter.
Earlier, the petitioner’s advocate verbally submitted before the court that the strings of this case are also linked to the SDPI organization (which is banned in India).
The case arose after an incident of violence on June 10 last year. The violence took place when a mob protesting against suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s ‘derogatory remarks’ on Prophet Mohammed pelted stones on police, which retaliated by resorting to lathi charge and firing.
The incident left two dead and several injured. The district administration had to do a big exercise to bring normalcy in the capital. Four FIRs were registered at the Daily Market police station in this connection. The matter was handed over to the CID for investigation.
