Ranchi, Feb 6: The Jharkhand High Court stayed the construction of a new apartment, which was started four months ago adjacent to Ratan Heights in Morabadi under the Bariatu police station area in the heart of the Jharkhand capital.

The court, besides staying the work, directed the Ranchi deputy commissioner and municipal commissioner to file an affidavit in the matter within three weeks.

The direction came from the bench of Justice Rajesh Shanker after Ratan Heights Building Society knocked on its door for justice saying after the construction work started the life of their building had come in danger.

The society through their petition informed the court that after builder VKS Reality dug a 35 feet pit adjacent to the land of their apartment on Morabadi-Bodya Road, the entrance wall suddenly collapsed and a car parked there fell into a 35 feet pit on January 23.

Notably, Advocate Indrajit Sinha appeared on behalf of the society.

Around 48 flat owners of Ratan Height apartment, who were having sleepless nights due to the construction of a multi-storey apartment adjacent to their apartment, heaved a sigh of relief after the direction.

On January 4, the resident also organised a press conference to share their problem with the media people. During the press conference, it was informed that despite direction by civic authorities, construction work was going on and they were fearful.

When contacted additional municipal commissioner of Ranchi Municipal Corporation, Kunwar Singh Pahan, for his comment on the matter, he said he had already taken cognisance of the matter.

Justifying the construction work going despite the civic authority’s direction he had said it was in their interest to build an existing building.

He said construction of retaining walls was going on to ensure the safety of existing apartments against landslides. Pahan also shared photographs and videos supporting his statement.

Contradiction Pahan, the society resident also shared photographs showing how their apartment was under demolition
