Ramgarh, Feb 22: A herd of wild elephants have started wreaking havoc in the Gola forest area ahead of Ramgarh by-elections. A herd of more than two dozen wild elephants reached the Sosokalan and Kumhardaga villages on Tuesday.
There was panic among the villagers due to the arrival of a herd of wild elephants in the villages of Ramgarh. There was chaos in the village throughout the day. People flocked to see the elephants.
Moreover, the wild elephants destroyed the crops of Ganesh Mahato, Ashirwad Mahato, Dinesh Mahato and many others. Along with this, the crops and cowshed of Devcharan Mahato, a resident of Fulgarha, were also damaged.
Meanwhile, the forest department has started raising awareness to protect the villagers, urging them not to go near the elephants or try to tease them until they are driven away.
The team, with the help of the Elephant Removal Squad and the villagers, drove away the elephants by burning firecrackers. The team worked all night to drive away the elephants and protect the people.
As per ranger Rakesh Kumar Singh and forest workers Anil Kumar and Manish Sharma, the forest department team were constantly trying to drive elephants into the forest. The villagers were also prevented from going near the elephants. The department is also taking action for compensation.
