Ranchi, May 9: The Jharkhand High Court today sought a reply from the state government on its question asking why Rupesh Pandey murder case be not handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the probe.
The development took place in the court of Justice Sanjay Dwivedi where a petition of Pandey’s mother, Urmila Pandey, demanding a proper probe into his son’s death case was taken up for hearing.
The court directing the state government to file a reply deferred the hearing in the matter for four weeks.
Senior advocates Ajit Kumar, Anurag Kashyap, Anil Kumar and Radha Krishna Gupta appeared on behalf of Urmila Devi. Assistant Solicitor General of India Prashant Pallav appeared in the matter.
On February 6, during the immersion of idols after Saraswati Puja, student Rupesh Pandey was murdered by a mob. The incident caused statewide protests. After which there were a lot of allegations and counter-allegations between political parties on this matter across the state.
