Ranchi, May 12: Former Congress President and MP Rahul Gandhi got relief from the Jharkhand High Court today.
Justice Sanjay Dwivedi while hearing the quashing petition filed by Gandhi ordered a stay on any kind of coercive action against the Congress party leader. Along with this, the court has also stayed the proceedings of the lower court in the matter and has issued notice to the petitioner.
The high court also directed the state government to file a reply in this matter. With the above direction, the court deferred the hearing in the matter till 26 September.
Advocate Piyush Chitresh appeared on behalf of Rahul Gandhi.
The case arose after a lower court summoned Gandhi taking cognizance of a complaint filed alleging Gandhi of calling bad names for all having Modi as their surname during the Lok Sabha election campaign in Ranchi. Gandhi allegedly named Narendra Modi, Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi in his campaign speech in Morhabadi and said that those who have Modi surname are thieves.
