Ranchi, Sept.17: During hearing of a writ petition related to the appointment to the fourth grade employees in the state-run super specialty hospital Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the Jharkhand High Court asked RIMS that how come it had written in the advertisement that only the citizens of Jharkhand can apply.

The court was of the opinion that a citizen belongs to the country, not the state. The court strongly reprimanded RIMS on this point. Though the court did not stay the examination scheduled on September 18 on this point but said when the examination is organized on the basis of new advertisement then appointments made on the basis of this erring advertisement will be affected.

The matter was heard by a division bench headed by Chief Justice Dr. Ravi Ranjan.

The matter reached before the court after the advertisement was published on March 8, 2019 for the appointment of 169 posts of Lab Attendant and Ward Attendant. On the basis of which the candidates were also selected, but the appointment letters were not given to the candidates.

Aggrieved with the delay in delivery of appointment letters, the affected people filed a writ petition in the Jharkhand High Court and a request for a direction for immediate issuance of the appointment letter.

However, RIMS cancelled this advertisement. In compliance with the order of a PIL, and a new advertisement was issued by RIMS on 20 May 2022 for the posts of Lab Attendant, Ward Attendant and other posts. The affected persons again challenged this advertisement in the High Court, where during the hearing all the matter came to the fore.

The next hearing in the case will take place on October 14.
