Ranchi, May 14: The day can be considered a good one for sports lovers from Jharkhand as the men’s and women’s hockey teams from the state have won the knockout games in their respective tournaments.
During the National Senior Women’s Hockey Competition being held at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the team from Jharkhand defeated Maharashtra 5-4 in the penalty shootout to enter the semis. This is the first instance in four years that the team has made it this far.
Neither of the team could score a goal by the end of the fourth quarter which led to a penalty shootout. Jharkhand’s Goalie Anjali Binjhiya saved three goals out of seven and secured her team’s place in the semis.
Jharkhand’s Vetan Dungdung, Nirali Kujur and Reshma Soren were the goal scorers for Jharkhand.
For the men’s team, during the ongoing National Sub-junior Men’s Hockey Championship 2022 being held in Goa, Jharkhand defeated Odisha to enter the final.
Odisha took the lead in the 33rd minute of the game by scoring the first goal of the match. However, Jharkhand took the lead by scoring three goals one after the other and won the game 3-2.
