Ranchi, June 16: The Jharkhand Police trying to identify the mastermind of the June 10 violence is passing through a tough time.
Police officials, who faced the violence on June 10 after Friday prayer at a mosque, are not facing challenges from the sympathisers of trouble makers but also from the government authorities to whom they are answerable.
A police official informed that the show cause issued by Home Secretary Rajeev Arun Ekka to Senior Superintendent of Police of Ranchi, SK Jha suggests the quantum of pressure police officials are facing.
“When the police officials are facing resistance in picking up suspects and sending the accused to jail in different localities, Ekka Saheb has issued a notice to the SSP asking why he had placed posters of trouble makers. Though the SSP complied with the order of the state governor given in the presence of the state police chief, the notice was issued to him. The notice is nothing but an attempt to demoralise police officials, which so far has maintained the law and order properly despite a nationwide conspiracy to disturb the social fabric of the country,” a police official said.
The police official said at the times when different types of videos are coming before and officers are busy verifying its genuineness with limited manpower having proper knowledge of IT appliances, an attempt is being made to divert the attention of the police captain.
“We have come across a video in which a youth clad in a red T-Shirt and covering his face with a handkerchief reaches on the road passing through a lane adjacent to Hanuman Temple on Main Road and opens six rounds of fire one after another before he leaves the spot without taking any time. At times the plan is being chalked out for verification and identification of the person, attention is being diverted,” the official said.
Contacted SSP Jha for his comment, he admitted the problem but said he will file a reply.
“When a show cause has been issued to me, I will file the reply,” Jha said. Prodded further he did not speak anything.
According to home secretary Ekka, it was wrong to put the banner carrying details of the persons as it is an unnecessary interference in the privacy of individuals. The home secretary quoted the order of the Allahabad High Court in the matter.
