Jharkhand: IIT-ISM emerges champion;  IIT Kharagpur dominates athletics

Dhanbad, March 20: While IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) emerged as an overall champion, IIT Kharagpur dominated the athletics in the three-day East Zone Technical Institutions Sports Meet ‘Prakram’ 2023, which concluded on Sunday evening.

The IIT ISM team won four events: table tennis, hockey, chess, and basketball, and finished second in men’s badminton. Laxman Meena, an IIT ISM athlete, won gold in the 1500m race.

The IIT ISM team won the table tennis event, defeating BIT Patna with a score of 3-0 in the finals.  Furthermore, the host team defeated NIT Jamshedpur in the chess event. In the basketball final, the host team defeated St Xavier College Ranchi, while in the hockey event, they defeated NIT Jamshedpur.

However, BIT stopped the trophy-winning streak of IIT ISM by defeating them in the Volleyball finals.

IIT Kharagpur athletes Siganglari, Anandu Akhil Kumar, and Sagar KP finished first to fourth in the 400-metre race. In the women’s 1500-metre race, IIT Kharagpur girls also established their dominance by winning all four positions. Jangili Poothija and Anju finished first and second, respectively, while Prachi Bajpai and Rithika Venkatatesan finished third and fourth.

IIT Kharagpur also won the men’s badminton event with a score of 3-1 from IIT ISM.

In athletics, the IIT Kharagpur team dominated the competition, winning gold medals in nine different events. Akhil Kumar and Singangsa Baglari of IIT Kharagpur won the first two positions in the men’s 200-metre final, with third and fourth places.

A female technocrat of IIT BHU won the women’s badminton event, defeating IIT Kharagpur with a score of 3-0 in the final.

Amidst all this IIT ISM made its presence felt in the Men’s Athletic event as Laxman Meena won first place in the 1500 metre run, while Vikash Kumar Mahto of Binod Bihari Mahto Koyalanchal University Dhanbad, Ravi Tripathi of IIT Kharagpur, and Abhishek Kumar of Asansol Engineering College finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.
