Daltonganj, Jan 30: A jackal on Sunday attacked two girls at the Akhra village under the North division of the Palamu Tiger Reserve. The village Akhra is in the contiguity of the Betla National Park.
Notably, the girls were playing around their houses when a jackal attacked the two biting their thighs.
Umesh Dubey, a forester told lagatar24.com today that the girls have been identified as Karisma Kumari (10) and Amrita Kumari (16).
“Our PTR personnel Gulshan took the two to the community health centre at Barwadih for treatment. The girls are fine and back home,” said Dubey.
The medical officer in charge of the Barwadih CHC Dr Ashish Ranjan was contacted to know about the injuries sustained who said, “It’s an animal bite. The abrasion of both girls is mild. Anti-rabies injections have been given to them.”
A total of four shots of anti-rabies are to be taken which are scheduled as zero-day, third-day, seventh day and 28th-day.
Dr Ashish Ranjan said the injuries are on the posterior side of the thigh of both girls.
Kumar Ashish, the deputy director South division of the PTR said it’s time now to understand that where there is wildlife, care and caution can’t be thrown to the wind.
Ashish said jackals are not as dangerous as wolves but jackals are known to attack children.
