Ranchi, Feb 19: The ongoing language dispute in Jharkhand might settle now as the demand for removal of Bhojpuri and Magahi from the list of regional languages from Dhanbad and Bokaro districts was accepted by the state government.

Both languages have been removed from the list. On the other hand, Urdu language has been included in the list of regional languages.

The notification regarding the changes has been issued by the Department of Personnel, Administrative and Official Language.

It is to be known that there was a protest going on for the last several days demanding the removal of these two languages.

Ultimately, the state government decided to remove them and issued a newly revised notification.

However, the Bhojpuri language has been kept in the list of regional languages in Palamu and Garhwa. Similarly, Magahi has been placed in the list of regional languages of Chatra and Latehar districts.

Last time, Urdu language was not included in the regional language of any district, but this time the Urdu language has also been included in the list of regional languages of all 24 districts.

The language dispute of Jharkhand had taken a very violent form and former MP Ravindra Rai was also attacked by the protesters.

On 24th December 2021, in Jharkhand, the government had released the list of regional languages including tribal languages for district-level posts. The regional and tribal languages were marked district-wise for district-level posts in the matriculation and intermediate level competitive examinations by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.

On Friday (February 18), before the notification was issued, Congress state president Rajesh Thakur and Legislature Party leader Alamgir Alam had met Chief Minister Hemant Soren and urged him to remove Bhojpuri and Magahi from the list of regional languages in Dhanbad-Bokaro.

He said that the former situation should be restored regarding the regional language. Bhojpuri and Magahi were not included in the list of regional languages of Dhanbad and Bokaro earlier.
