Daltonganj, Febr 3: The occupancy of beds at the malnutrition treatment centre (MTC) in the Latehar Sadar hospital is below average, not even 50 per cent, despite instances of malnutrition in the district.

Notably, there is a 15-bed malnutrition treatment centre at the Sadar hospital but till Friday, only four beds had malnourished children who were undergoing treatment.

Sources said the deputy commissioner of Latehar Bhor Singh Yadav has asked the officials to ensure that the centre caters to malnutrition treatment to its capacity of 15 as a malnourished child begins to gain weight in three weeks on average.

The hospital has an indoor pharmacy which is open in two shifts but not at night after 7 pm.  However, the C.O.T (read emergency ward) manages critical cases with injections etc only and for oral medications attendants of the patients of the emergency cases are to sprint out for medicines.

Under the Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS), the pharmacy in the hospital has to be functional 24×7.

DC Latehar Bhor Singh Yadav has directed the civil surgeon Latehar to do something for the pharmacy at night in the hospital.

The green look in the hospital is to be promoted, asked the DC to health officials.

The entry to the hospital has to be free of any unauthorised parking as the passage must be free for an ambulance, stretcher, wheelchair etc.

Deputy superintendent of the hospital Dr Arvind Kumar said, “We are committed to translating the orders of the DC Latehar into reality despite whatever crunch of the doctors etc here in this hospital exists.”

Ved Prakash, another official of the hospital said we would soon add to the number of flower pots/green pots for the benefit of the patients to create a greener look in this hospital.

Sources said cleanliness was a miss in the hospital for which DC asked officials to be most concerned.
