Jamshedpur, Sept 19: Several places across Jharkhand were expected to get light to moderate rain on Monday, indicated a forecast issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
Satellite pictures showed patches of clouds over most districts. The rain is likely to be accompanied by thunder and lightning in isolated areas.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Ranchi.
Weathermen said the rainfall activity was expected to increase from tomorrow.
“A cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal extending up to 5.8 Km above the mean sea level persists. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over west central and north-west Bay of Bengal off Odisha and West Bengal coasts around September 20. We have therefore issued a forecast of heavy rain at isolated places over western and adjoining central parts of Jharkhand tomorrow,” said a duty officer at Ranchi Met Centre.
He said capital Ranchi will witness a generally cloudy sky with few spells of rain or thundershowers today.
The seasonal rainfall data suggested that against normal rainfall of 944.5 mm, the state has so far received 743 mm, a deficit of 21 per cent.
