Ranchi: In a decisive move following arrests in the high-profile liquor scam, the Jharkhand government has suspended two Jharkhand Administrative Service (JAPS) officers — Sudhir Kumar and Sudhir Kumar Das. The Department of Personnel has issued the official suspension orders, effective from May 21, confirming both officers are currently in judicial custody at Hotwar Jail.
Key roles in Beverage Corporation
Sudhir Kumar was serving as the General Manager (Finance) of the Jharkhand State Beverages Corporation Limited (JSBCL), Ranchi. Meanwhile, Sudhir Kumar Das held the position of General Manager in the same organisation. Both have now been relieved of their duties pending further investigation.
Background: High-level arrests in liquor scam
Their arrest came just a day after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended two senior IAS officers — Vinay Kumar Choubey, former Secretary-cum-Commissioner of the Excise Department, and Gajendra Singh, the then Joint Commissioner of Excise. The case pertains to alleged corruption and financial irregularities in the functioning and procurement operations of JSBCL.
The ACB is continuing its probe, and more action is expected in the coming days as the investigation unfolds deeper into what is now being called one of Jharkhand’s major administrative scams.
