Dhanbad, Jan 23: Manish Sharma won the 3rd Navin Kumar Sinha Memorial Rapid Chess tournament organised by West Singhbhum District Chess Association at ST Xavier Welfare Centre in Chaibasa.
In the seven rounds champion, Manish Sharma got 6.5 points and bagged the first prize of Rs 10,000 while Rajesh Kumar of West Singhbhum district got second position with 6 points and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 6,000.
Six players Raja Bose of Dhanbad, Manoj Kumar of Ranchi, Rohit of Jamshedpur, Sayam Chakraborty, Adhiraj Mitra of East Singhbhum, Umang Anant all also got 6 points each and left on the 3rd to eight places respectively.
The highest-rated player in the tournament was Rohan Vijay Shandilya (1913) of Jamshedpur who got 12th position with five points.
Notably, Rohan Rajesh Kumar was the second highest-rated player (1847) and Manish Sharma was the third highest-rated (812).
The West Singhbhum district Chess Association general secretary Basant Kumar Khandelwal said that a total of 142 players had participated in the one-day championship in which the top 20 players were awarded with cash prizes and trophies.
In the closing ceremony, the superintendent of police Ashutosh Shekhar was the chief guest and SDO Sachindra Baraik was the guest of honour and they gave away prizes among successful players.
During the occasion, Khandelwal said that in the boys under-15 event, Addhar and Harsh Kumar Jha were given 1st and 2nd prizes while in the girls under-15 event, Sunidhi Singh got the first position and Nishtha Das secured the second spot.
Similarly, in the under -30 men’s competition, Anuj Prakash and Ajit Yadav got first and second positions while in the women under -30, Samridhi Mazumdar and Adhika Mohanto emerged as the top two.
