Ranchi: The Jharkhand Police Association has written to the Director General of Police (DGP), demanding legal action against former minister Krishna Nand (KN) Tripathi for allegedly assaulting his bodyguards. The association’s president, Karn Singh, submitted the letter highlighting the seriousness of the incident.
Incident in Latehar
According to the letter, two policemen—Constable 632 Ravindra Rikhiyasan and Constable 592 Gopal Singh—were on deputation as Tripathi’s bodyguards. While managing traffic congestion in Latehar, they were allegedly abused with caste-based slurs and physically assaulted by the former minister. Reports state that Tripathi abandoned his bodyguards, leaving them on the road in uniform with their weapons, before walking away from the scene.
Association Calls Behavior ‘Inhumane’
The Police Association condemned the act, terming it both inhumane and an attack on the dignity of the police force. It stated that such behavior by a public representative not only insults the police but also raises serious concerns about security and law and order.
Demand for FIR and Legal Action
In its letter, the association urged the DGP to permit the registration of an FIR against Tripathi to ensure lawful action is taken. The demand comes amid rising voices for accountability, as the incident has sparked debate over the safety and respect of police personnel on duty.
