Patna: The controversy over alleged derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the INDIA bloc’s Voter Adhikar Yatra has intensified. A defamation case has been filed in a Patna court against four opposition leaders, with a hearing scheduled for September 3.

Leaders Named in Complaint

Advocate Awadhesh Kumar Pandey has lodged the case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, naming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, VIP party chief Mukesh Sahni, and Mohammad Rizwi alias Raja. The petition seeks legal action for the alleged offensive remarks.

NDA Calls for Bihar Bandh

Meanwhile, the NDA has announced a state-wide bandh on September 4, from 7 AM to 12 noon, to protest against the objectionable comments. BJP and its allies have said their leaders and workers, especially women, will take to the streets to demonstrate.

Origin of the Controversy

The row began when the Voter Adhikar Yatra reached Darbhanga. During a public meeting, a speaker identified as Rafiq allegedly used offensive language about PM Modi and his mother. The video quickly went viral on social media, sparking outrage. The BJP condemned the remarks as an insult to all mothers and launched protests across Bihar.

Police Action

So far, one accused, Mohammad Rizwi, has been arrested in connection with the case. The developments continue to fuel a heated political clash between the NDA and INDIA bloc ahead of upcoming elections.
