Ranchi, July 5: Jharkhand police took a 2019 batch IAS officer Saiyad Riyaz Ahmed in its custody following charges of sexual harrasment against him.

Ahmed has been working as sub divisional magistrate in Khunti since July 2021.

Police took the action after an FIR was registered against Amhed at Mahila Thana on July 4.

An IIT student who had come for training at the DC office lodged a complaint against him. She alleged that she became victim of sexual harassment on July 2 during a party where Ahmed made sexual advancement and she had to manage herself to escape from there.

Khunti SP Aman Kumar confirmed the custody but refused to divulge further details. “We have taken him in custody. I will be able to share more details after questioning,” he said while confirming the development.
