Ramgarh, March 18: The Ministry of Defense has postponed the election for the Ramgarh cantonment board along with 57 other cantonment boards all over the country. The elections were scheduled on April 30.

Rakesh Mittal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defense, New Delhi, issued a notice in this regard on Friday. Consequently, the election process was stopped by MS Harvijay, the Ramgarh Cantonment Board’s CEO. The election was scheduled to be held on April 30 in accordance with the authority granted by sub-section (1) of Section 15 of the Cantonments Act 2006 (41 of 2006) of the Government of India.

Joint Secretary Rakesh Mittal had published a notice on February 17 for 57 Cantonment Boards, including the Ramgarh Cantonment.

The five-year term of the ward members elected in 2015 ended on May 20, 2020. In the meantime, because there were no elections, the term of office of ward members was extended by one year, to June 2, 2021. After this, the tenure of the ward members ended after 6 years. This was followed by the Ministry of Defense proposing Keerty Gaurav as a nominated member. The tenure of the nominated member was again extended by 6 months due to a delay in elections.
