Ranchi, Sept 7: Jharkhand has the second lowest number of cases reported in terms of violent crimes against women in India when compared to the data of its bordering states as per the recently released NCRB data of 2021.
It is noteworthy that the tribal state has maintained its position for the past three years.
In 2021, Jharkhand had 8110 incidents of crimes against women while Chhattisgarh had 7344 such cases. Other bordering states including Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal had 17950, 31352, 56083, and 35884 cases respectively.
Meanwhile, in 2020, Jharkhand had 7630 such cases while in 2019 the tribal state had 8760 cases of crimes against women. On the other hand, in 2020, Chhattisgarh had 7385 such cases, while in 2019 the state had 7689 cases.
Other bordering states including Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal had 15359, 25489, 49385, and 36439 cases respectively in 2020. While in 2019, Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal had 18587, 23183, 59853, and 29859 cases respectively.
Furthermore, of the violent crimes against women in Jharkhand, there were 20 incidents of murder with gang rape with 22 victims, 158 dowry deaths, 296 cases of abetment to suicide, 1159 cases of kidnapping, 658 cases of kidnapping for marriage, 1425 cases of rape and 792 cases registered under POCSO.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh saw the highest cases where 48 incidents of murder with gang rape, 2222 cases of dowry deaths with 2235 victims, 376 cases of abetment to suicide with 378 victims, 10547 cases of kidnapping with 10695 victims, 8599 cases of kidnapping for marriage with 8677 victims, 2845 cases of rape and 6970 cases registered under POCSO with 7001 victims.
Bihar had 1000 dowry deaths, five cases of abetment to suicide, one case of acid attack, 5739 cases of kidnapping, 6589 cases of kidnapping for marriage, 786 cases of rape and 1561 cases registered under POCSO.
West Bengal saw five incidents of murder with gang rape, 454 cases of dowry deaths with 471 victims, 456 cases of abetment to suicide with 461 victims, 30 cases of acid attack, 7376 cases of kidnapping, 506 cases of kidnapping for marriage, 1123 cases of rape and 2569 cases registered under POCSO.
Odisha, on the other hand, had 12 incidents of murder with gang rape, 293 cases of dowry deaths, 27 cases of abetment to suicide with 461 victims, three cases of acid attack, 5175 cases of kidnapping, 215 cases of kidnapping for marriage, 1456 cases of rape and 2496 cases registered under POCSO.
Chhattisgarh had eight incidents of murder with gang rape with nine victims, 65 cases of dowry deaths, 125 cases of abetment to suicide, 1158 cases of kidnapping with 1172 victims, 70 cases of kidnapping for marriage, 1093 cases of rape and 2321 cases registered under POCSO.
On the other hand, the rate of crime against women per lakh population in these states in 2021 includes 43.0 in Jharkhand, 30.2 in Bihar, 49.8 in Chhattisgarh, 137.8 in Odisha, 74.6 in West Bengal, and 50.5 in UP.
Meanwhile, the charge sheet rate in Jharkhand is 79.7, 69.4 in Bihar, 88.5 in Chhattisgarh, 80.1 in Odisha, 93.7 in West Bengal, and 76.5 in UP.
