Ranchi, Nov 7: Jharkhand has ranked eighth in terms of education in the Performance Grading Index Report released by the Union Ministry of Education recently. The report is based on a survey that monitors the learning outcome along with the infrastructure and facilities of schools in the states.
The performance grading index report released every year by the Union Ministry of Education checks the performance of the government schools of the nation. As compared to the report last year, this year the state’s schools have improved functioning significantly.
The report showcases that education in Jharkhand has improved its learning outcome as well as facilities. Notably, out of 1000 marks, Jharkhand scored 841 for its performance in 2020-21. Meanwhile, the earlier report based on the state’s performance in the year 2019-2020 showcases that Jharkhand scored 790 marks out of 1000.
Talking in this regard, the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) director Kiran Kumari Pasi said, “Jharkhand has showcased rapid improvement in the Performance Grading Index Report released by the Central government. Several programmes of SSA are field monitored and improved by JEPC and the state education department in a combined effort. We have also worked on major pillars of governance to improve the overall result”
This time’s report released for the year 2020-21 showcases that Jharkhand scored similar marks as last year for Learning Outcome and Equality, however, there has been a lot of improvement in terms of infrastructure, facilities and governance. Notably, Jharkhand seems to be one of the few states that have shown maximum improvement in facilities followed by Meghalaya, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Ladakh, Tripura, Odisha and Assam. Jharkhand has also been ranked 12th in improving the governance process.
Schools are graded on Learning Outcome for 180 marks, Access for 80 marks, Infrastructure for 150 marks, Equality for 230 marks and Governance Process for 360 marks. In the report for 2019-2020, Jharkhand scored 156 in Learning Outcome, 63 in Access, 112 in Infrastructure, 212 for Equality and 247 for Governance Process. However, in the report for 2020-21, Jharkhand scored 156 in Learning Outcome, 64 in Access, 133 in Infrastructure, 212 for Equality and 276 for Governance Process.
On the other hand, the JEPC and JAC are facing troubles in terms of admissions in the model schools built recently by the state government. As per recent reports, some schools are missing infrastructure, while others, despite infrastructure have only a handful of students.
Director Pasi in this regard said, “JAC takes admissions in model schools through screening. The department monitors the changes continuously. The department has also instructed that the seats that remain vacant in the first round of screening, are to be filled after a review by the district-level committees in the next stage of admissions.”
