Jharkhand sees 2.7 per cent hike in number of voters in 2022, says chief electoral officer

Ranchi, Jan 5: The Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar on Thursday said that there has been an increase of 2.7 per cent in the number of voters under the Special Brief Revision Program 2023, which ran from 9 November 2022 to 8 December 2022.

During a press conference at the auditorium located at Nirvachan Sadan, Sector 2, Dhurwa, he added that the total number of voters in the state has gone up to 2.45 crore.

Notably, at the time of publication of the last draft, the total number of voters in the state was 2.39 crore. A total of 5.40 lakh new voters have been made in the special drive run across the state under the special brief revision program, in which about 96.28 per cent of applications were received online. 

He said that new voter cards will be made available to these new voters by the end of January. 

He further added that under the Special Brief Revision Program 2023, which ran from November 9 to December 8, 2022, youth in the age group of 18-19 were focused. 

Before the revision, there were 1,69,018 voters in the age group of 18-19 years, whereas in the final draft publication, there were 4,33,774 voters in the age group of 18-19 years. 

Notably, 2,64,756 new youth voters have become voters in this age group during the revision period, registering an increase of 156 per cent.

Moreover, in terms of total new voters, the total increase in the number of male voters is 2,37,872, which is about 1.92 per cent and the total increase in the number of female voters is 3,02,406, which is about 2.60 per cent. 

Similarly, the sex ratio of the voter list has increased to 946. The proportion of citizens in the age group of 18+ is 63.06 in light of the projected population in the state. The EP ratio refers to the voter population ratio, which is based on the population of 18+. The ideal EP ratio is 63.06 based on the projected population by January 2023. Whereas, after revision, the EP ratio of Jharkhand has become 59.15.

Ravikumar said that a total of 9,66,314 photographs have been found identical in the voter list of the state from the Election Commission of India, New Delhi. 

Furthermore, a total of 19,397 demographically similar entries exist, which are being made available to all Electoral Registration Officers and necessary action is being taken for their investigation and improvement.

He added that the work of establishing and strengthening the Electoral Literacy Club is being done in coordination with School Education and Literacy Department and Higher Education Department. 

At present, 2,474 Electoral Literacy Clubs have been formed for prospective voters and 412 for young voters in the state. Along with this, 28,248 election schools and 966 voter awareness forums have been formed.
